Training

Harwell observes hundreds of emergency plans in action annually and constantly finds that the key factor which will ensure a plan works in practice is practice! Even the most comprehensive and effective emergency plan will have limited success upon implementation if those leading the recovery are not familiar with content and have not practised using the plan, handling damaged material and setting up a triage operation.

Harwell provides both bespoke in-house training and external courses designed to:

  • Improve the performance of plans through increased familiarity
  • Give staff confidence in salvage and damage management techniques
  • Pinpoint the capability to manage damage inhouse and when to call in Harwell and external resources
  • Robustly check the content and layout of plans and highlight any outstanding issues

We also provide training on writing emergency plans, pest management and managing the environment in storage areas, and work for many regional agencies in training hundreds of smaller collections. Additionally, we can assist to set up emergency exercises with local fire brigade personnel.

Evaluation and feedback from this training is very positive, with clients valuing the practical and pragmatic approach and the motivated and confident salvage team after the training.
