HDRS Introduction to Emergency Planning Course

This is an intensive one-day course which will equip participants with all the tools necessary either to write an emergency plan for their institution for the first time, or to review an existing plan so that it is thoroughly up to date. Exercises throughout the day provide opportunities for participants to fast-track elements of their plan. Hard and soft copy handouts, together with a template plan will be available. The program is as follows

10am Registration, coffee
10.30am – Why plan? The advantages of emergency plans in emergency situations
11am Good foundations – Selection of your emergency management team
11.40 Break
12.05pm Good foundations – Scoping your emergency plan – scale, types of peril
12.30pm Incident reaction – ensuring your plan’s alarm-raising mechanism is fail-safe
1pm Lunch
1.45pm Arrival onsite – writing procedures for incident assessment and reaction
2.15pm Appendices – Staff contact lists, priority lists, floor plans, disaster kits
3pm Break
3.20pm Appendices – suppliers, documentation, risk assessment form, salvage instructions, shut-off instructions,
3.50pm Ensuring your plan works in practice – format, style, presentation, circulation, quality control, training and interfacing
4.15pm Discussion
4.30pm Close
