In-house training
Your organisation may have a disaster plan but how many people actually know how to implement it? Have you had a run through to check the plan's efficacy? Could your plan contend with a minor incident up to a major fire or flood? Do all the people who work in your building, including security and cleaning staff, understand why a fast reaction to water-damage is so important?
If you have answered no to any of the above questions, it may be useful to utilise HDRS' practical experience in disaster situations to your advantage and organise an in-house training day to improve disaster prevention awareness, ensure that everyone working in your building knows why it is important to raise the alarm even if all they have seen is a small pool of water, and highlight any weaknesses in your plan by putting it to the test in a minor and major scenario!
HDRS can also cover procedures for handling, packing, and stabilising a range of damaged items as well as giving practical advice on disaster recovery.
Such training days have been held in many institutions, including Record Offices and Academic Libraries and those participating have found the experience rewarding and informative.
